EPISODE 8 WITH CREATIVE WELL-BEING EXPERT KATINA
Guest: Get Creative & Eliminate Burnout with Katina Bajaj
In this episode of Hey Close Friends I had the pleasure of speaking with the lovely Katina Bajaj. Katina is the co-founder of Daydreamers, a company that helps people get into their creativity and eliminate burnout.
A lot of times we are told we have to fit in a box in order to be successful or have a life we are proud of, but it’s okay to not be on that linear career/life path. The more experiences and dot you collect the more you will be able to live a successful and fulfilling life. The other day I was reflecting on what it means to be a multifaceted human…someone that just has a lot of interests and always wants to try something new like me. I come from a theater background and in theater there is this judgment around being something other than an actress. You couldn’t have another passion or other things that brought you joy because it took so much energy and would eventually stir you away from being the best version of yourself as an actress. But recently I realized that being multi-hyphenate is becoming cool which makes me happy because I am very quickly becoming a multi-hyphenate and I think I might have been one my whole life…but I feel like I kind of had this shame around being good at so many things or trying so many things. If you didn’t know I own an agency, I am a photographer and I used to be an actress, I started a podcast…so being creative and trying different things is something that is a constant in my life.
Katina explains that she thinks everyone is creative in their way (and I totally agree!). One thing that is a big misconception is that all the things we like doing on the side, don’t have to turn into a side hustle…some of these things we enjoy doing they can remain just that. From a cultural prospective it would be nice to see a shift…not everything needs to be related to an output, monetization or getting more likes. Give yourself permission to try something just because. Hobbies did exist in other generations and other periods of time where we did things just because and I feel like we need to reclaim that. It’s really important to carve out that time and just be creative.
HOMEWORK
The idea of savoring is so powerful. It’s that moment when you are lengthening how beautiful something is. Document and notice moments of beauty around you and see how it feels.
If this is something you already do, bring it up a notch. How can you be more open? How can you challenge yourself to do something different/out of your routine and savor it?
